DIY Time Lapse Rail Book
So, for those of you who follow my blog, you may have noticed my conspicuous summer hiatus. After more than two months of summer R&D and writing, I finally have something to show you... It's a book!
This whole project was basically inspired by the growing use of motorized camera sliders, ala the introduction to the Netflix series, "House of Cards." There's just something so awesome and scintillating about a camera smoothly moving through a high-speed time-compressed universe!
I was going to buy one of the rigs, but discovered the decent motorized and programable ones cost over a thousand bucks. So I made my own from metal conduit and spare 3D printer parts.
The book is written for the motivated beginner, complete with diagrams, links to downloadables, and tons of photos. It would make a great gift for the techy photographer or inventive filmmaker in your life. Now I have my own time lapse camera rail, and you can have the book to make your own.
Here's a video that I originally streamed live from Facebook - hence the brief interruptions as I figure out what the heck to do with the comments coming in and people joining. In the end, I decided I should just ignore it all and try to speak in complete sentences...
Next time, I promise not to swerve the camera so much, or say 'Ummm... ' so many times.
Thanks for watching!
Enjoy & happy making!
