Solar Surgery

A professor Dr. Jeffrey Gordon has done some amazing research into using sunlight in place of lasers to perform surgery. The sunlight is concentrated with an telescope tracked to the sun, and is carried to the point of surgery with a light fiber. Depending on the type of light fiber ending, the solar scalpel can be used in a contact-free or contacted mode. There are various advantages to using solar energy in this way, namely sterile operation, lower cost than lasers, and the use of solar energy in areas with limited access to power grids. I am not aware of his technology being in use anywhere as of yet, but it certainly is an excellent option in places with sunlight.
